Sleep heat is a major issue for many people. Whether you suffer from medical conditions like menopause or have night sweats from diabetes or a thyroid disease, sleeping hot can interrupt the uber-important REM cycle and wake you up – usually drenched and super uncomfortable. Sleep is something with which a lot of people already struggle; topping that with added heat is a bona fide way to make sleep even more elusive. But how do you combat sleep heat? Here we’ll review some products and ideas that can help you keep cool while sleeping.
If you tend to sleep hot, you’re quite aware that your mattress can make this bad situation quite worse. Stay away from heat-trapping memory foam and opt for a hybrid cooling mattress instead. Paired with the appropriate bedtime accessories, a mattress that traps heat can make a huge difference. We prefer the Puffy LUX Mattress, which has cooling layers that help disperse body heat. The technology works by absorbing and dissipating excess body heat, resulting in a cooler and more comfortable sleep environment. *Keeping the bedroom dark in the hours leading up to bedtime can aid in the production of melatonin. Take steps to make sure your bedroom is as cool as it can be at night. Use fans for better air circulation in the evenings and draw the blinds during the day to keep the sun’s heat outside.
*Use a dehumidifier to reduce humidity, which can make the temperature feel hotter.
